Community Project

The Community Project 2011: WE WANT YOU!

The Collective will host its annual Community Project where members of the community are invited and encouraged to participate in the making of a new dance work. This year's project will be choreographed by Collective member, Cait Moler. Participants will explore the animalistic nature of human behavior through movement phrases and group choreography.  Trying to uncover the behaviors that are common to all humans, the participants will use animal inspired movements to create unity and harmony.  Come and join a community of movers!

The Community Project is open to all experience levels and movers of all styles. Partcipants must be at least 16 years old to participate. The project is FREE for all participants.

History of The Community Project: Last year's Community Project fit within the concert theme of modern art with the dancers creating movement phrases and painting the stage with movement. The performance was on March 20, 2010 with choreography by Martha Reyner. On March 14, 2009, Jessica Fultz's choreography was showcased in the 3rd annual Community Project with innovative costuming and movement based on recycled themes and the desire to "Go Green!" The 3rd annual Community Project welcomed over 20 dancers to the stage, and these dancers have stayed in contact even after the performance event. On April 5, 2008, The Collective premiered the second annual Community Project at the Baltimore Museum of Art choreographed by Sonia Synkowski. The theme for 2008: "Moving and Transitioning Through an Urban Environment." More than 20 participants performed in this project. The Collective is proud to continue the success begun in March 2007 when over 20 dancers of all levels from the Baltimore area joined together to perform a piece choreographed by Jennifer Ousse-Seye with the theme of "Waterfalls".
